Teeth whitening: in office or take-home kit?
October 6, 2026 - Marina Bay Dental team

We offer whitening in two forms. Both use a professional-strength gel that is stronger than anything sold in a drugstore, and both are done under our supervision. The difference is where the work happens and how fast you see the result.
In-office whitening: $450
One visit of about 90 minutes. We protect your gums, apply the gel and activate it in several short rounds. You leave with the result the same day. This is the option for people with a date in mind, such as a wedding or an interview, or for anyone who does not want to think about trays at home.
Take-home kit: $299
We take an impression of your teeth and make custom trays that fit only you. You wear them with the gel at home for a set time each day, typically for one to two weeks, and the shade lightens gradually. The result is comparable to in-office whitening; it simply takes longer and you control the pace. Custom trays also make touch-ups easy later on.
Sensitivity
Some patients feel short-term sensitivity to cold for a day or two. We use a desensitizing gel and can lower the strength or shorten the sessions if you are prone to it. Tell us before we start if your teeth are already sensitive.
What whitening does not do
It does not change the color of crowns, veneers or fillings, so if you have visible restorations at the front we discuss that first. It also does not remove tartar; a cleaning before whitening gives a more even result and is often worth doing first.
Which one to choose
If you want it done today, in office. If you prefer to spread the cost and the effort, or want trays for the long term, the take-home kit. Either way we start by checking that your teeth and gums are healthy, because whitening over an untreated cavity is not a good idea.
